FrenchFest

FrenchFest '07

This year’s FrenchFest is being organized by the Chch City Council Events team.

It will begin on 21 September with a Black Tie function at the Gaiety Theatre at which the French Ambassador and trade Commissioner will be guests.

The main theme for the Saturday is the “jour de marche” with roving entertainment and stalls from the war memorial to the Recreation ground. There will be three shows of a circus “La Premiere d’Akaroa”, a fete gastronomique and, the highlight from our perspective, the recreation of the landing of the original French and German Settlers.

The events team has organized a professional sound system, so the commentary should be easily heard by all present.  Immediately following the landing, the descendants and supporters will move in procession accompanied by a band to the Rec Ground Both the Comte de Paris group and the Alliance Francais will have stalls.

The Comte de Paris group will have a historical display and will feature the Libeau bricks. Steve Lelievre has obtained samples of Joseph’s bricks and also some made by George Libeau in Reefton. We will also sell the souvenir bricks left over from the 150th reunion.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it for the day.
